Deputy Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the plan was within the framework of the ministry to ensure heavy vehicle drivers adhered to speed limits as well as to help them navigate traffic.
"Installation of GPS in heavy vehicles is being practised in China and it has brought positive changes," he said after launching the Lafarge Drivers' Safety Day 2013 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang here yesterday.
Aziz said the ministry, the Road Safety Department and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research would discuss plans to ensure heavy vehicles were equipped with electronic braking system for better handling.
"It is also important that heavy vehicles are not overloaded. This not only puts the driver's safety at risk, but also the safety of other road users."
He said with the recent spate of accidents, there was a need to improve safety.
