Lafarge Wins Award for Green Initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd has bagged the Corporate Social Responsibility category in the fourth Malaysian Business-CIMA Enterprise Governance 2011 award.

 

The country's biggest media group beat UMW Holdings Bhd and Malayan Banking Bhd, which emerged as the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively in the category.

 

Media Prima general manager for corporate communications Mastura Adnan received the award on behalf of the group.

 

"We are humbled to have won such a prestigious award and to be in the run in the corporate social responsibility realm with other respectable and deserving organisation.

 

"As a caring corporate citizen, we are committed in promoting and getting ourselves involved in an initiative involving the community for a sustainable future for all of us."

 

The event was organised by Berita Publishing's Malaysian Business magazine together with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Malaysia (CIMA).

 

Public Bank was the overall winner for the award while Maybank bagged the first runner-up and Telekom Malaysia Bhd came in as second runner-up. Sunway City Bhd topped the Best Return to Shareholder category, followed by Public Bank and RHB Capital Bhd.

 

In a new category, Green Initiative, introduced this year, Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd snapped the top spot, while Sunway City Bhd came in second and Petronas Gas Bhd came in third.

 

Winners were evaluated according to business and corporate governance principles and best practices, including risk management and internal control, communications and adherence to regulation, strategic management and financial and operational performance.

 

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala, who gave away the awards, said the number of companies signing up onto the Malaysian Corporate Integrity Pledge had been encouraging, but urged more private sector to participate in the pledge.
