LAFARGE MALAYSIA CELEBRATES 60 YEARS AND LAUNCHES “BUILDING BETTER CITIES”

 

6 July 2013, Rawang, Selangor - Lafarge Malaysia Berhad (“Lafarge”) celebrated its 60th Anniversary today with the launch of its new corporate brand positioning “Building Better Cities” at an event officiated by the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Datuk Ir. Hj. Hamim Samuri. The launch was held at Lafarge’s Rawang Plant, Malaysia’s first cement production facility.

 

With a strong heritage dating back to the 1950s, Lafarge has witnessed and supported the growth of Malaysia as it has become a modern, industrialized nation and the company’s contributions have touched all aspects of the nation’s infrastructure development. Today, Lafarge is the largest cement producer in the country, with a strong foothold in the aggregates and concrete businesses. It has four production facilities across the nation and has an extensive network of terminals, depots and distribution channels.

 

In conjunction with its 60th Anniversary in Malaysia, Lafarge launched “Building Better Cities”, a new corporate brand positioning that is being applied worldwide and has been born out of a recognition that the world is rapidly changing with more and more people choosing to live in cities and an increasing focus on the need to drive sustainable development. In Malaysia, “Building Better Cities” reflects the company’s continued support as the nation fulfills its 2020 vision of becoming a high income nation, and affirms its commitment to contributing to the development of the construction landscape of tomorrow.

 

“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to shape the Malaysia known to the world today, having been part of the nation’s growth since the 1950s. As Malaysia continues on its growth trajectory, we will continue to contribute to its development through supporting its infrastructure, and in particular will support the Government’s aim of providing affordable, quality housing for all Malaysians. At Lafarge, we believe that access to affordable housing is essential for a better nation and should be available for all Malaysians,” said Bradley Mulroney, President & Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Malaysia.

 

Lafarge’s commitment to supporting the continued growth of Malaysia is complemented by its innovation-centric and solutions-driven approach, and ability to leverage the Group’s extensive R&D facilities and capabilities. With a focus on ensuring that its solutions meet the needs of the local market, global solutions will be tailored to local construction needs at the company’s upcoming Construction Development Laboratory located in Petaling Jaya.

Hamim Samuri, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry in his speech commended Lafarge for its initiatives in developing solutions for the construction of affordable housing segment. He said, “Lafarge has indeed been a partner in Malaysia’s journey of growth and continues to contribute to our nation’s ever-evolving landscape. It is hoped that Lafarge will continue to support national growth, while ensuring that it benefits all segments of the rakyat. One of the challenges facing the rakyat is when it comes to buying affordable and quality homes, especially for those living in cities such as in the Klang Valley area. I understand that Lafarge is taking an initiative to develop solutions for the affordable housing segment. In this regard, I commend this effort. Perhaps Lafarge and other companies related to the industry could work hand-in-hand with our agencies such as PR1MA to find ways on how we can build these houses at reasonable costs without compromising on quality.”
