Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad (LMCB) announced today that it is the first Malaysian cement company to have two of its cement products awarded the Green Label certification by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC). The two cement products are the innovative and eco-friendly Mascrete LH and Phoenix that fulfilled the pre-requisite to become eligible for the Green Label certification. Mascrete LH and Phoenix are manufactured using pulverized fuel ash, also known as fly ash, a by-product of coal fired power stations.

“This is a proud moment for us,” said President & Chief Executive Officer of LMCB, Bi Yong Chungunco. Besides offering advanced solutions to meet our customer’s demands, we are one step ahead, developing technological breakthroughs in reducing the CO2 footprint in cement applications. “This affirms Lafarge’s leadership and commitment to sustainable construction through innovation.”

“Innovation is a key focus at Lafarge with more than 50% of our R&D budget dedicated to sustainable construction. "Cement-based concrete is the most widely used material on Planet Earth. It can even be made on the Moon. And it has evolved from a simple building material to a continuously evolving high performance building product," said Dr Jacques Lukasik, Lafarge Group Senior Vice President & Director of Scientific Affairs who was in Kuala Lumpur to deliver a talk on Concrete Reborn: Innovative Research & Development at Lafarge.

Concrete, a composite of cement, water, sand and aggregates, is the second most widely used product in the world, after water. A high performer, it offers architects infinite possibilities for creative expression and at the same time it is durable, widely available, easy to use, relatively cheap and can be recycled. The potential of concrete is continuously explored at Lafarge's Research Centre, the world's premier laboratory for building materials.

Every year Lafarge commits 1% of its sales revenue to R&D (2007 Sales: 17.6 billion euros; R&D budget: 170 million euros), to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation to meet customer dreams and expectations as well as promote sustainable construction. "Lafarge is strongly focused on sustainability issues," said Dr Lukasik. "For us sustainability means a reduction of emissions, a more efficient use of resources, better re-use of alternative fuels and raw materials and a consideration of people's health and safety but also innovative materials that can play a role in designing new construction modes that have a lower environmental impact and consume less energy. This is strategic as buildings account for about 40% of CO2 emissions worldwide, due to heat, air conditioning, light needs. Thanks to its versatility and thermal inertia properties, concrete can play a key role in moving towards more sustainable construction modes."

Lafarge launched a voluntary initiative to reduce net C02 emissions by 20% per ton of cement world wide over the period 1990 to 2010 as part of its partnership with WWF. In Malaysia, Lafarge Malayan Cement plants in Rawang and Kanthan substituted imported coal with biomass alternative, palm kernel shells (PKS), in cement manufacturing. PKS now accounts for over 5% of energy used in the heating process of the plants' kilns during the production of cement. By substituting PKS for coal, Lafarge is able to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60,000 tons per year - the equivalent of planting four million trees a year.

Overall, the results in reducing CO2 emissions are encouraging, with the Group recording a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions worldwide as a result of other wide-ranging initiatives that also include introducing renewable energies such as windmills at its Morocco plant, to replacing carbonated raw materials with de-carbonated materials Lafarge has also achieved notable successes with sustainable concrete - concrete that meets precise specifications, and is aesthetic, durable and recyclable. "Innovative R&D at Lafarge has witnessed the rebirth of concrete. We are currently in the intelligent concrete era that has seen several breakthrough innovations," said Dr Lukasik, who played a key role in the development of the well-received Ductal® sustainable concrete that was born in the Lafarge laboratories in the 1990s.

Lafarge now has an impressive sustainable concrete portfolio known as much for innovation as for their performance and environmental friendliness. It includes Ductal®, Agilia®, Artevia®, Extensia®, and Chornolia®. The outcome of collaborations between industry and academic institutions in Europe, USA and Canada, they are proof of Lafarge's commitment and dedication to transform the life-cycle of construction - from production of building materials to construction, operation and demolition.

For cement, Lafarge has launched a revolutionary high tech cement, branded Sensium®. Sensium® Is a dust free cement that allows construction workers to work in cleaner, dust free environment. Another advantage of Sensium® is that it is also easier to use and hardens more rapidly compared to ordinary cement.

In Malaysia, 2 innovative products have been introduced by Lafarge Malayan Cement in recent years to benefit construction. The 2 new innovative cement products are Avancrete and Mascrete Pro.

Avancrete is a 40kg premium bag cement that is technologically advanced with superior properties which are faster setting, better workability and easy to mix. Avancrete is developed based on customer needs and through these superior properties, allows customers to increase productivity at the job sites. Unlike the conventional 50kg bag, Avancrete's lighter load performs like the 50kg bag but is 20% lighter which makes it easier for workers to carry and more importantly, saves cost.

The most recent development in Lafarge Malayan Cement is the introduction of Mascrete Pro, an innovative cement product that has been successfully launched and is now rapidly gaining market acceptance. Mascrete Pro offers contractors the potential to use a highly workable concrete which requires significantly less compaction thus opens the opportunity for the local industry to use innovative solutions to overcome the shortage of labour at the construction site. The advantages of Mascrete Pro has already been appreciated by numerous customers in the construction industry. It has also proven to be cost effective in producing quality products that require less labour which has created remarkable value to Lafarge's customers.

The adaptation of highly workable and high strength concrete, by Mascrete Pro, will usher a new chapter in the local construction industry where construction work can be speeded up with less labour but brings high quality and durable products.

NOTE TO EDITORS

About Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad

Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad (LMCB) is the leader in Malaysia's cement industry. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Cement manufacturer Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd presented to its shareholders the company's results at the Annual General Meeting held today.

"Although cement demand was flat compared to 2006, the company recorded better earnings as a result of strong performance in all businesses except for ready-mixed concrete," said the Chairman,
Tunku Tan Sri Imran Ibni Tuanku Ja'afar.

The Group's revenue grew 4.6% to RM2.174 billion in the financial year ended 31 December 2007, boosted primarily by better domestic prices and higher export sales. Operating margin, meanwhile, improved from 11.5% in 2006 to 14.5% in 2007. Pre-tax profit expanded by 50% to RM317.6 million while net profit soared 64% to a record high of RM284.2 million. Earnings per share recorded strong growth at 21.0 sen, up 41%.

In line with the better results, the Board of Directors declared an interim dividend of 20.0 sen gross less 26% tax that was paid on 6 May 2008.

The 9% increase in the cement ceiling price announced by the Government in December 2006 compensated partly for the 40% increase in costs suffered by the industry over the past few years. However, the improved margin was also due to the management's relentless pursuit of operational excellence and cost control within the Excellence 2008 project, a cost reduction programme driven by Lafarge SA. Better plant performance resulted in higher production and enabled the company to increase its exports by more than 400,000 tonnes while still serving the domestic market.

The Company also released its Q1 2008 results yesterday. Revenue in the first quarter of 2008 increased by 10%, mainly due to the growth in domestic cement demand in Peninsular Malaysia. Pre-tax profit improved to RM66 million, compared to RM59 million in the corresponding quarter in 2007. Contributions from the higher revenue growth in the first quarter of 2008 were partly offset by the higher costs of fuel and materials.

Rising costs continue to remain an industry-wide challenge, with margins eroded by the significant increases in the prices of fuel (mainly coal), paper bags and other materials and possibly transportation. The impact of higher coal prices has not been fully reflected in the first quarter results due to the availability of cheaper stock and contracts. Following the market liberalisation of the steel industry, the Company expressed its optimism that the government will respond positively to the industry's request for a review of the cement price ceiling and the implementation of the proposed Automatic Price Mechanism.

NOTE TO EDITORS

About Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad

Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad (LMCB) is the leader in Malaysia's cement industry. Eight children from the association were exceptionally happy when they were announced as winners of the drawing contest jointly organised by Lafarge Malayan Cement and Persatuan Dyslexia Wilayah Persekutuan. Lafarge Malayan Cement also pledged a donation of RM3,850, collected from proceeds through printing of the company's specially-designed festive greeting cards, to the association during the visit.

The contest and donation are part of Lafarge Malayan Cement's community service programme where every year, the company will donate proceeds from their greeting cards to a charity organisation, in line with the company's corporate social responsibility commitment. A total of 49 children from the association, aged between 5 and 12 years old, participated in the contest where they were given the choice to draw any of the four main festive seasons celebration in Malaysia. Four of the best drawings were then selected and printed on the cover of Lafarge Malayan Cement's Hari Raya, Deepavali, Season's Greeting and Chinese New Year cards for 2007/2008.

Lafarge Malayan Cement's Vice President of Communications, Robitahani Zainal, said, "This is the first time we are donating proceeds from our festive greeting cards to Persatuan Dyslexia Wilayah Persekutuan although we have been donating the proceeds to charity for many years. We are pleased to have the opportunity to contribute and help create awareness on the difficulties faced by dyslexic children, and hope that the donation given will be used by the association to further expand its activities for the benefit of the children."

"Although they have difficulties in learning to read and spell, dyslexic people often have special talents such as artistic, athletic and others. The drawing contest is our way of allowing these children to show their artistic talent," added Robitahani.

This contribution is also very much in line with Lafarge Malayan Cement's commitment of supporting social and educational advancement in the local community. The company recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Schools Project where bursaries and excellence awards are given annually to children in the four states where it operates.

Expressing her thanks to Lafarge Malayan Cement for their generous contribution, Sariah Amirin, President of Dyslexia Association of Malaysia said, "We are thankful that Lafarge Malayan Cement acknowledges the association's role in helping dyslexic children overcome their reading and writing difficulties. With greater awareness about dyslexia, we hope to help more people through the numerous activities we organise."

Dyslexia is a neurological learning disorder. The event also saw the distinguished presence of Works Minister and Member of Parliament for Sungei Siput, Y.B. Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu, who officiated the ceremony and presented excellence awards to the top students on behalf of Lafarge Malayan Cement.

The Academic Excellence Awards is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme initiated by Lafarge Malayan Cement to recognise students with outstanding results in their UPSR and SPM examinations, and to help lessen the burden of deserving students from needy families. Over and above its social obligations, LMC hopes to instil the importance of academic achievements and the spirit to pursue excellence amongst the younger generation.

According to J.R. Kim, Senior Works Manager at LMC's Kanthan Plant, "the programme was first initiated in 1997 to promote academic excellence and to enhance relations with communities that we operate in. It now extends to all our plants in Langkawi, Rawang, Pasir Gudang and here in Kanthan/Sungei Siput".

He added: "In 2002, Lafarge Malayan Cement started to introduce a single award presentation ceremony for schools from each region surrounding the four plants. Since then, we have been holding Academic Excellence Awards Day for schools in Kanthan, Langkawi and Rawang every year. Schools in Pasir Gudang will be having their first single award presentation ceremony this year".

In appreciation of Lafarge Malayan Cement's corporate philanthropic efforts and in praise of the students' outstanding achievements, Y.B. Kastury obtained seven (7) As in the UPSR examination last year.

In appreciation to the financial aid received from LMC, Kastury's father, Mr. Ravichandran, a lorry driver, said "LMC's bursary will provide financial means to maintain quality education for our children's future and for that, I am sincerely thankful to the company."

Over the years, the programme is increasingly being regarded by participating schools as a pillar of support in their endeavours to interest and encourage their students to excel in their studies. Evidently, the programme has assisted in garnering better results from students through its supportive role of instilling enthusiasm and pride in pursuing academic excellence.

The six schools covered in Kanthan/Sungei Siput are SM Methodist, SRJK (C) Rimba Panjang, SRK Haji Mahmud, SRK Methodist, SRJK (T) Ladang Dovenby and SRJK (C) Chong Hwa. This was the fourth time a single award presentation ceremony was held for all of these schools to give greater recognition to the award recipients.

In addition to Kanthan, Perak, the other schools under the annual Academic Excellence Awards programme are those surrounding LMC's plants in Rawang (Selangor), Langkawi (Kedah) and Pasir Gudang (Johor). A total of 277 students from 28 schools from these districts will benefit from the programme this year; in which a total of 84 excellence awards and 193 bursaries amounting to RM100,000 will be offered to deserving students from needy families.

About Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad (LMCB)

LMCB is the leader of the Malaysian cement industry and a major player in the Asian export market. It was incorporated in 1950 with its first cement plant built in Malaysia in 1953.

LMCB is today the parent of a group of companies in Malaysia and Singapore whose core businesses are in the manufacturing and sale of cement, ready-mixed concrete and other related building materials.

LMCB currently employs 2000 people and operates a nationwide network of facilities, which include 3 integrated cement plants in Langkawi, Kanthan and Rawang, one grinding plant in Pasir Gudang and distribution channels by road, rail and sea.

Additional information is available on the website at www.lafargemalayancement.com.

About Lafarge

Lafarge is the world leader in building materials, with top-ranking positions in all four of its businesses: Cement, Aggregates & Concrete, Roofing and Gypsum. PKS are a waste product of Malaysia's palm oil industry. PKS now account for over 5% of energy used in the heating process of the plants' kilns during the production of cement. The Group has calculated that an average of 68,000 tons of PKS per year is necessary to sustain this level of energy.

By substituting PKS for coal, Lafarge is able to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60,000 tons per year - the equivalent of planting four million trees a year. Moreover, precious fossil fuels are being preserved. PKS also offer advantages to the local environment and economy including:

- The use of a waste product which would otherwise be stockpiled, open to saturation by tropical rains and consequently of no use to any industry

- The use of a local product which reduces Malaysia's dependence on coal imports.

The registration of this project is the final step in the CDM process.

Lafarge is currently developing two other CDM projects:

- In Brazil where limestone is replaced by industrial waste, such as slag (a waste product of the steel industry) in the manufacture of cement.

- In India where fly ash (a waste product of coal power stations) is used as a substitute for cement clinker, also in the manufacture of cement.

This project is consistent with the Group's voluntary objective to reduce net CO2 emissions by 20% per ton of cement produced worldwide over the period 1990 to 2010, as part of its partnership with WWF. So far, significant progress has been made and in 2005 Lafarge recorded an 12.7% reduction in CO2 emissions.* It should be noted that this commitment goes far beyond the target set by the Kyoto Protocol, under which industrialized countries (Annex I) must reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases during the period 2008-2012 by 5.2% compared to the year 1990.

Note to Editors:

The Kyoto Protocol
The Protocol introduced three "flexibility mechanisms" in order to lower the overall costs for countries to achieve their emissions targets. These "flexibility mechanisms" are:

- Clean Development Mechanisms: in which Annex I countries can implement projects in developing countries that reduce emissions in return for CO2 credits thereby helping the latter to achieve sustainable development and contribute to the overall reduction of greenhouse gases. The CDM is supervised by the CDM Executive Board based in Bonn.

- Joint Implementation: in which Annex I countries can implement projects similar to CDMs in transition countries, notably in Eastern Europe and Russia.

- Emissions Trading: which allows for the trading of ‘units' between Annex I countries in order for them to meet their emissions targets. This enables countries to lower the overall cost of reducing emissions. Each ‘unit' is equal to one ton of CO2 emissions.

Lafarge in Malaysia
Lafarge is the leader in all four of its businesses in Malaysia. The Group has been present in the country since 1998 when it acquired the roofing company, Hume Redland Industries. Lafarge first entered the Malaysian cement market in 2001 after the acquisition of Blue Circle and now has forty-one percent of market share. The Group has three cement plants and a clinker grinding station and a total production capacity of twelve million tons in Malaysia.

Lafarge is the world leader in building materials, with top-ranking positions in all four of its businesses: Cement, Aggregates & Concrete, Roofing and Gypsum.
