For more than 60 years, Lafarge Malaysia has played and is playing an integral part in practically all the communities in Malaysia, providing the essential building solutions without which, there will be no homes, buildings, offices, schools, hospitals or infrastructures. However, for those communities that are directly impacted by our activities, we want to form a visible mutually beneficial bond that is positive, empowering and sustainable.

While we define sustainable development through the process of improving and providing better quality solutions, contributing to long-term social and economic development, Lafarge Malaysia actively support efforts to promote environmental conservation to improve the quality of life for the communities while respecting and preserving our planet for future generations.

Our Group Sustainability Ambitions 2020 are organised around three main pillars with nine major ambitions. The three main pillars are Building Communities, Building Sustainably and Building the Circular Economy.

Health & Safety

One of the main pillars in Building Communities is Health & Safety. Health and Safety is the top priority in all areas of our business operations. Our ambition is to attain zero fatality and eliminate lost time incidents for all our employees, contractors, transporters, drivers and the community.

Community Development

We all share one goal - that is to create a better world. At Lafarge Malaysia, it is more than just producing, marketing and delivering world-class building materials.  Our committment to protecting the environment and behaving responsibly in the communities we live as well as work in, while meeting the building need requirements that society demands of us today, form an integral part in the core of our business.

As part of our core values and future success of the business, we have an essential role to play in finding new ways of meeting present and future needs that are socially and environmentally sustainable.

Innovation & Environment

It is about safeguarding the world we live in. At Lafarge Malaysia, we believe that innovation is not just about enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in our products and solutions.  Environmental awareness and sustainable development practices have always been a part of our organisational make-up.  We focus on developing and producing sustainable products and solutions to achieve a balance between environmentally protection, social progress and economic growth.

In Malaysia, in our efforts to reduce the environment footprint, it includes looking out for more efficient and sustainable manufacturing methods and creating more environmentally-friendly products. We have been progressively working on reducing our carbon footprint over the years by using alternative fuels such as biomass and other wastes as alternative fuels, thus reducing the use of natural resources.

One of the efforts to protect the environment and prioritise the reduction of emissions is investing in a new ready-mixed concrete batching plant in Malaysia which is enclosed thus minimising noise and dust emissions.

People Development

Our principles are a part of everything we do. They are based on our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people.

At Lafarge Malaysia, we help our people develop their caareers by developing their passions.   In addition, we offer our employees the opportunity to play a leading role in setting new standards of quality, innovation and sustainability.

Sustainability Reporting

2014 marks the first year that Lafarge Malaysia Berhad is publishing a separate Sustainability Report as a standalone record of our commitment to sustainable development. This initiative is inspired and guided closely by the Sustainability Ambitions 2020 of the global Lafarge Group, which brings with it very concrete objectives that are designed to contribute visibly and significantly to society.

This Sustainability Report details Lafarge Malaysia’s efforts in managing its environmental footprint through our actions related to alternative fuel usage, biodiversity, water management and CO2 emissions. Understanding that sustainability extends beyond ecological concerns, we have also included information on the various activities and initiatives undertaken in terms of health and safety aspects, community outreach programmes, and emphasis on employee diversity & skills. These are detailed in the Creating Value for Our Stakeholders section.
